Assessment/Evaluation
There will be 4 units studied in grade 7 science.

Understanding Matter and Energy – Pure Substances and Mixtures
Understanding Structures and Mechanisms – Form and Function
Understanding Earth and Space Systems – Heat in the Environment
Understanding Life Systems – Interactions in the Environment

Each unit will have one or two quizzes, two or three smaller assignments (ex. Lab write-up), one unit test, and one unit project.

Homework
There will not be daily homework assigned in Science class. They are expected to hand in assignments on time though and to review their vocabulary list on a weekly basis.

Communication
Please feel free to contact me by calling the school with any questions you may have at any time during the school year. I will send an e-mail home if an assignment hasn't been turned in on time in order to ask for your help with its completion, but cannot discuss student progress via e-mail.

Textbook
Our newer science textbooks will remain in the classroom. They will have ample information in their notes and hand-outs. However, if your child would like to sign out an old textbook for reference or for studying, they are welcome to do so. They must sign it back in when they are finished with it. All textbooks must be returned in June. Failure to do so will result in a payment for a replacement textbook of $99.95.

Extra help
I will stay any day at lunch that a student needs help, provided they tell me they are coming. Students also have access to a website designed for our new textbooks.

This website is arranged into the four units of study. Each unit has three chapters. It has extra resources, quizzes, games, etc. for each page/section of each chapter. It is an excellent place to look for ideas for assignments or to help answer some of the questions they may have.
